Google is offering a free upgrade of an extra 2GB of space on Google Drive after ‘security checkup’

Google is currently offer customers a free upgrade of an extra 2GB of space on Google Drive for doing a security checkup where you will be able to review your current settings, recovery information, increase security with adding a two-factor authentication as well as reviewing what devices have access to your account.

    • Ensures your account recovery information is curren
If we detect suspicious activity in your account, we use your recovery info to get in touch and make sure no one but you gains access.

    • Lets you review recent sign-in activity
Reviewing this lets you validate the sign-ins are coming from you and not someone who shouldn’t be using your credentials.

    • Confirms the apps and devices that access some account information
This step lets you monitor this list and remove apps and devices that don’t need access to your account any more.

Overall I think that this is a great thing to review and make sure that your Google account is as secure as possible, as for most of us everything that we have is connected to the email accounts from everyone’s contact information to financial information to even calenders for when everyone’s birthdays are,  as over the months there have been a lot of hacking from stores like Home Depot and Target to Sony and the movie “The Interview” and just over the last few days many Facebook and Twitter accounts have been compromised.

To do the review all you need to do is go to Google Security and review your account settings and you will have the upgrade on February 28th, 2015.  Full details can be found on the Google Blog Post.
